When you upload an image, which would be a png or jpg file, you have the choice of making that into a print then cut image or just a cut image in Cricut Design Space. Additional note, if you upload defaults right to a cut file and does not give you an option for print then cut, that means you upload a SVG file and not an image file.

I have also heard people call this process how to ungroup a png file in Cricut which is not really accurate since you cannot ungroup a PNG file
