Elderberry Syrup is a medicinal syrup that comes from Elder. In this step-by-step tutorial, I am going to show you how to make Elderberry Syrup.

Elder has a history of use that spans hundreds of years on nearly every continent. Elder is long known as the “medicine chest of the people,”. Today we primarily use the flowers and berries for medicine.

The berries of the Elder are full of vitamins and powerful antioxidants. They one of our most beloved immune tonics used primarily during the winter months to help ward off the cold and flu.

In this video, I show you step-by-step how to make Elderberry Syrup. If you don’t have your own garden with elderberry bushes, you can order dehydrated elderberries from herb stores online.

This recipe comes from my book, The Home Apothecary: Home Crafted Recipes Using Herbs & Essential Oils. This book is FREE while supplies last! Just pay shipping by going here: http://bit.ly/homeapothecarybook

ELDERBERRY SYRUP RECIPE
2 cups of fresh elderberries or 1 cup of dehydrated (you can buy them here: https://amzn.to/2Tx6XMi)
2 cups of filtered water
2 cups of raw honey
2 sticks of cinnamon
2 tablespoons of fresh ginger (or 1 teaspoon of dried)
1 teaspoon of cloves

1. Add elderberries, water, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to a pot.
2. Bring to a boil. As you are bringing it to a boil, use a potato masher and gently mash your berries so that they open. This helps to release the medicine from the berries.
3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
4. After 30 minutes, remove your elderberries from the stove and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
5. Line a colander with a cheesecloth and set over a bowl.
6. Strain the berries and spices, making sure to squeeze all the liquid out that you can. Be careful as it’s probably still hot.
7. Pour in 2 cups of raw honey.
8. Stir your syrup until all the honey has dissolved.
9. Pour your Elderberry Syrup into your jar.
10. Store in your refrigerator.

This syrup makes an excellent remedy for children that are over one year old. It will need to be stored in the fridge and consumed within 2-3 weeks.

Dosage: Adults take 1 teaspoon a day up to 3x a day. Children over one-years-old take to 1/2-1 teaspoon a day (depending on size).

*In this video, I show you how to add alcohol to your syrup to prolong the shelf life. I do not give this type of syrup to my children. I use the recipe above. This is an optional step you can decide if you would like to.

Warmly,
