Discover true peace at Río de la Vida with this luxurious modern-style home. Explore the interior design and enjoy the beauty and tranquility that this unique home offers!

Allowing natural light to flood the interior and dance throughout the day, Río de la Vida is deeply connected to its natural surroundings. As a testament to sustainable living and the idea that a home should be a sanctuary for its owners, this brand-new construction occupies its site with a sober and intentional philosophy. Responding to both the past and the present, its form acknowledges and embraces the natural elements at its disposal. Focusing on overall composition and a sense of light, the sum of its parts creates a peaceful place to disconnect and recharge. The robustness of the base materials also offers balance to the overall lightness, grounding the home.

Throughout the property, contrasting lines and gestures come together. A curved entry void welcomes guests with an inviting movement, leading to a sunken living area where custom concrete steps soften the transition downward. Here, natural light filters through strategically aligned openings that frame views and bring the landscape inside. Along with other passive cooling mechanisms, the increased thermal mass of the concrete foundation helps retain heat while also serving as a solid foundation for daily family life. Opening up to the outdoors, the immediate garden and entertaining spaces become an extension of the living area.

Outside, the landscape unfolds like a thoughtfully crafted canvas. The flexible planning, which can adapt to various ages and functions, is ideal for the coming years and the need to allow for both separation and togetherness. The rounded-edge pool features similar lines established in the interior concrete formwork, creating a focal point within the garden. Integrated between the architectural elements and the hard and soft landscaping, the pool becomes an invitation to relax and reflect, offering a pause in the garden space.

A place where past and present converge, and where the river flows freely, Río de la Vida is also a space where every detail sensitively navigates the landscape. From the defined architectural lines to the sustainable features integrated throughout, there is a deep reverence for the land and a commitment to coastal living in harmony. While references to traditional coastal vernacular are evident, influences from the similar climate of Palm Springs guided the plant selection and a sculptural, striking approach to the landscape. Enhancing the overall form, the interconnection between the natural and the built was also sensitively addressed. Influenced by the site itself and more distant inspirations, the resulting home feels connected to its people, its place, and a time of acknowledgment and respect for the landscape in a responsive way.
