My son Nathan turned 28 on the 9th of this month.

Every year I ask him what he’s been listening to.
He said he’s been listening to Neil Youngs more grungy stuff
he recorded with Crazy House around the time of “Rust Never Sleeps”.

A few months earlier I told him I bought the box set of
Deep Purple’s album “Machine Head”.
He said the song “Highway Star”, from the album,
is a favorite of his.

So I got him that box set and the dvd of Neil Youngs concert movie,
“Rust Never Sleeps”.


After receiving them he told me that I played that movie
for him when he was young and he mentioned the time
we saw Neil Young and his wife jump in the water,
while we sat at this exact spot on the beach.

Neil Young used to own the house on the left,
which in this video, you can only see a light.

Neil and his wife walked out a gate and jumped in the water.



I told Nathan who it was and grabbed my fans and swam out.
They swam to the reef and came back.

As he passed me I said hi and he said hi back.

I always played music for Nathan and always told him
who we were listening to.
So he knew who Neil Young was.

I used to play him everything from the Beatles and test
him on who sang what songs.

Love for music is something that I was proud to pass on to him.
He’s got great taste in music.
