I wanted to start cutting dovetail joints by hand, so I did a bit of research on it and one of the first things I learned is that when using a chisel to cut and clean out the dovetails it needs to be very sharp to produce good results. So the question then became how will I sharpen these tools, as there was no way I was going to be able to sharpen them free handed as I am a complete novice when it comes to sharpening chisels. In a Woodworkers Guild of America video with George Vondriska he demonstrated how to sharpen chisels and irons using the Work Sharp and I thought that would be the perfect piece of equipment for me to learn how to sharpen these tools.
After receiving the Work Sharp (the package was lost by FedEx for about 2 weeks, but that is another story) and setting it up, my fear of sharpening these tools quickly went away. It is extremely easy to operate and in my nonprofessional opinion produces an excellent edge on the tool.
