Batman's no-kill rule has been an established part of his mythos for many decades, dating back to the 1940s. Yet, there is always controversy surrounding his unwillingness to kill. The no-killing policy can be seen across a plethora of heroes in the Bat-family, such as Nightwing and Robin, as well as members of the Justice League, like Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern. Many popular Batman adaptations tackle the no-kill rule in interesting ways, such as the DCAU Animated series, the Batman Arkham games, and The Dark Knight trilogy. DC Comics have always shone a light on Batman's strong moral code when choosing not to kill villains like the Joker, which has spawned interesting stories like "The Killing Joke" and "Under the Red Hood." The DCEU and Zack Snyder bastardize the Batman mythos by making him break his one rule in a very disingenuous manner. Hopefully, in James Gunn's DCU, we can finally get a comic-accurate Batman.
