Abstinence is a religious keyword and for a Buddhist monk, it is playing a major role in their life. The monks of the temple in Bangkok serve the community. Their own needs and their state of mind and body have to take second place. In order to be reborn in a higher form, they have to follow strict rules. Greed is not permitted, the have to abstain from violence, and to respect other people. The monks are only allowed of physical closeness when there is no element of desire involved. They have to be very careful: If they make a mistake, they must leave the monastic community.
