Gul Mohammad, an old shepherd, prepares his things early in the morning and loads them on his donkey.Then he leaves with his herd of goats and goes to the towering mountains of Zagros to graze.

Gul Mohammad meets another seasoned shepherd on the way. They both pause for a few words before continuing on their way.

When Gol Mohammad returns in the summer heat, he notices the thirst of his dogs. He pours some of the water he carries on a plastic sheet and lets the dogs drink and quench their thirst before reaching the nearest spring.

This glimpse into the daily life of an Iranian shepherd is a window into centuries-old nomadic traditions that have sustained the shepherding culture in this mountainous region.Despite the demands of caring for his livestock in the rough terrain, Gul Mohammad shows a deep connection to this way of life and shows great attention to the needs of his animals and himself as he rotates between posts and altitudes as the seasons change.
