In this video, we're going to answer some of your questions about how to adjust the Flatmaster drum sander, how to change the depth of cut, and can you sand longer pieces?

First off, let's talk about how to adjust the Flatmaster drum sander. To adjust the Flatmaster drum sander, all you need to do is loosen the bolts on each end and then turn the knob here on the sides of the machine.

As you turn this knob clockwise (1) or counter-clockwise (2), you'll notice that your sanding belt will move up or down depending on whether you're turning it left or right. So if you want to bring your drum/cylinder down, turn it counter-clockwise. If you want your cylinder higher, turn it clockwise.

The best time to adjust your drum is when you have a 220 grit sandpaper installed. Then all you do is ensure that the cylinder/drum with the sandpaper on just touches the wood as you pass over it while it is not running.

Next up: changing the depth of cut. You can change the depth of the cut by changing the sandpaper. Lower the grit number the more wood will be removed in one pass.

Here is a quick breakdown of how much wood is removed on each pass for various sandpaper grits:
80= 0.022"
100=0.016"
120=0.012"
150=0.008"
180=0.004"
220=0.002"

Remember that when using a new piece of wood for sanding—or any other material—always start with a shallow cut (#220 Grit) before moving onto deeper cuts after testing out how well they work with your particular piece of wood!

When it comes to sanding larger or longer pieces of wood, it is not recommended to use the Flatmaster with the basic table setup. The infeed and outfeed are just not long enough to support your piece of wood.

It is recommended to use a fence with an extension for this purpose. You can check out some amazing examples at ‪@StockroomSupply‬ I added a couple of clips in my video. https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxyIaMYk8I...

We appreciate all the questions and hope we can provide more answers as we go along.
