The unveiling of a monument to Mercedes and Imotski immigrants in the town of Imotski, Croatia. The Mercedes has a special place in the culture of Imotski. The life-sized sculpture is a homage to thousands of emigrants who returned home from Germany at the wheel of the ultimate status symbol. Imotski sent thousands of its sons and daughters to work in Germany as "gastarbeiters" or guest workers in the 1960s and 1970s. The monument is the ageless "Minika" the classic 1960s W115 saloon. Even today more than half of all registered cars in Imotski are Mercedes Benz.
