I have not done a dry fly pattern on here for a little while so figured it was time to put one up. Given we are knocking on the door to summer here and the local brown trout will be spending more and more time looking up for bugs on the surface I though this caddis variation would be a handy pattern for those of you tying dry flies. As per the name this is a caddis imitation and does a great job of this in smaller sizes. However, I like to use this in large sizes as well (think 12 and bigger) as a general terrestrial pattern. It has a great footprint on the water and when the fish are looking for anything and everything floating down stream in the surface it has proven handy. The Dirty Bug Yarn is a great material and proves its versatility with this pattern, I love the mottled coloring on a lot of the options you can get with it.

TYING NOTE: When splitting the yarn you do not have to do it while tied onto the hook as I have. You could cut it after tying in the tail/shuck then tie it back in. I simply wanted to demonstrate another way of doing it if you wanted a larger tail then using the single strand to tie the body without cutting it and tying it off again,

Cheers,

Happy Tying Everyone
