We live in an old black walnut orchard in the lower sierra Sutter Creek Ca area. . I had to buy a mill, the wood is too beautiful to burn. This tree is next door. I made them an offer they couldn't refuse. (7 hours of mowing their over grown burr infested yard) for a walnut tree. I've cut hundreds of trees, but I didn't want to chance damaging the trunk etc but a sudden impact on some edgy surface so I rigged up a support to soften the descent. After dropping it I painted the exposed ends and waxed them. The trunk has approx 500bdft in planks, 3" thick, full width and length.
