For a large number of people in Naxxar and other parishes across Malta, the Good Friday procession serves as the primary form of outward religious engagement. Naxxar’s procession, a fairly typical one, is the work of hundreds of people, in particular the prominent band clubs. Included in the procession are band performances, young men carrying statues, and members of the community in biblical costumes.
