One of the remnants of military past in the Australian city of Sydney is Middle Head Fort in the suburb of Mosman. First built in 1801, the majority of the fortifications were built between 1870 and 1911, with the last batteries constructed in 1942 for WWII defense of Sydney Harbour. What remains today are works from several periods and technologies which makes the place both visually interesting and diverse. The Middle Heads Fortifications mark the time in Sydney's history when the city's defense was first moved away from Sydney Cove and towards The Heads.
