Samba lelê is an old song in Brazil that every kid learns to sing. In Bat Makumba´s hand, this folkloric song got a new vibe with the Maculelê rhythm guiding it.

I grew up listening to Brazilian music (sambas, funk, rock, pagodes) like Bezerra da Silva, Zeca Pagodinho, Secos e Molhados, Clube da Esquina, Titãs, Chico Buarque, Ratos de Porão, Banda Black Rio, Samba Schools... and also international artists like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bauhaus, Tom Waits, Nick Cave to name a few.

It was a great pleasure to win the CALIFORNIA MUSIC AWARD for Outstanding Latin Alternative Album and the SF WEEKLY MUSIC AWARD for Best World Music in the Bay Area with my band Bat Makumba.
