New setup! This was recorded live at the barn stage of BAGFEST 2024, a small fun festival in Nottinghamshire on Monday the 26th of August, just after midnight.

It was an extremely fun set to play, as they had a Funktion One Soundsystem with four bass bins at the back of the room and absolutely excellent monitoring. I played loads of sequences where the bass was clean and powerful enough for me not to need to add many elements, the sound was plenty full enough on the floor.

This was the first outing of my new setup. After the failure of my mixer, I replaced it with a Behringer Xr-12. This was controlled with an Akai MidiMix. Unfortunately, since the Xr-12 MIDI implementation is a bit lacklustre, I had to use a laptop running MixingStation as an intermediary between the two. I don’t really like having a laptop open while playing but there wasn’t really any choice.

For now, the signal path I implemented is similar to what I had before. The four synths at the top are mixed down to a bus that is fed into the Syntakt’s external input. The difference is that the output of the Syntakt is then fed back to the mixer, and that I apply where I apply compression and EQ to each instrument and the master output. This allowed a more consistent volume level at the venue than I normally achieve.

The Xr-12 also allowed me to have a tube amp simulation on the TD-3-MO, which made the acid sound a lot more gutsy.
