What do we animate? Often, we use animation to reflect the world we observe, and study to recreate that. We use the different principles of animation to impart an authenticity into movements, characters and the world they live in. But animation doesn't have to only function on this level. Its power to transcend this is unlimited.

That's where I think Isao Takahata always pushes the medium forward.
