Therianthropy:

An involuntary non-physical identity as a non-human animal due to animalistic traits

One could be a spiritual or psychological Therian (I'm a psychological Therian so I don't know much about spiritual)

Spiritual: where one believes their animalistic traits come from a past life as an animal or having an animal soul/spirit. Born with

Psychological: where one believes their animalistic traits are due to their mentality, it being animal and human. Usually developed in early childhood due to trauma, imprinting, etc.. (can also be born with, such as due to neurodvergience)

Therians know they are human, do normal human activities and behave as a human, sometimes though they have urges to do certain animalistic things such as chase a squirrel up a tree, dig a burrow or run in a field. Usually these urges can be controlled.

(Note: if you get urges to do inappropriate acts with an animal that is NOT therianthropy, that is Zoophilia and is NOT ok and you should try to get professional help. If you get urges you cannot control where you can't remember what happened or acted violently those are symptoms of Zoanthropy, which is a mental illness that you should try to get help for)

These urges are called mental shifts, and can either be a nice experience, or a very bad one.

Other types of shifts exist such as Phantom shifts, sensory shifts, perceptions shifts, etc..

Phantom shift: where you feel a phantom limb from your theriotype (animal you believe you psychologically or spiritually are) such as a wing, tail, ears, claws, fin, etc..

Sensory shift: where one or multiple of your senses are heightened to fit more like your theriotype's

(Note: shifts are usually involuntary, and you could get one anywhere, anytime. Some Therians don't shift at all or are in a constant fluctuating shift)

Alterhuman: umbrella term used to describe people who don't feel fully human such as Therians, Otherhearted, OtherKin, etc..

OtherKin: similar to Therian but with non-earthly animals/creatures

Otherhearted: having a strong connection to an animal where you identify WITH the animal.

Polytherian: Therian with multiple theriotypes
