Higgins Lake State Park holds the Michigan Civilian Conservation Corps Museum and Nursery. If you want to learn about our great history this is a perfect stop on your Roscommon County Circle Tour.

The Higgins Lake Nursery operated from 1903 to 1965. It began as an experiment in reforestation and became one of the world’s largest pine nurseries, laying the foundation for a successful state forest system. In the 1930s, more than 100,000 Michigan men were enrolled in the federal Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps. They performed a variety of conservation and reforestation projects around the state, doing decades worth of work in just 9 years.
