The speaker series "Towards a Transinclusive Psychoanalysis", organized by IPU student initiative Queer IPU, brings together psychoanalytic practitioners whose work charts a path forward towards a non-(hetero)normative, de-essentializing, and trans-inclusive application of psychoanalysis. It is also a reaction to a series of controversial conversations that have taken place in Germany and the psychoanalytic community in general about what comprehensive psychotherapeutic support for trans* folks should look like.

For the first installment the Queer IPU invited Eve Watson (PhD, MICP). Eve Watson has been involved in psychotherapy practice, training, education and research since 2005 and lectures in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has published over thirty essays on sexuality, psychoanalysis, film, culture and literature and is the course director of the Freud Lacan Institute in Dublin. Her co-edited book with Noreen Giffney, Clinical Encounters in Sexuality (2017), is a reference book on psychoanalysis and queer theory.

Eve Watson is also part of a small but vibrant community of Lacanian analysts who argue that, when we embrace its most radical (Freudian) conclusions and clinical commitments, psychoanalysis can offer something unique and quite productive to transgender analysands by avoiding both the pitfalls of transphobia and the moral imperatives of virtue ethics.
