This video shows the assembly of the outdoor timber framed kitchen and bar. We begin with unloading and planing the timbers to remove the rough sawn timber look. We then add a chamfer on the corners to remove the sharp edge and give it a more finished look. While this is going on we also dug out our six holes for the foundation posts which were telephone poles.

On day two we began with coating the timbers in a stain/sealer called Ready Seal. We used the mahogany color but did not end up liking how orange it looked so we ended up applying another stain overtop at the end. Mid day we began assembling the bents by laying them on the ground and fastening them into place. Our foundation posts were slightly out of level so I cut the bottoms of the post accordingly. A neighbor assisted as we stood the bents up and braced them with some 2x4s.

On day three we began to frame the deck in that will sit under the roofed portion of the pergola. We also placed the remaining rafters over the slanted portion and assembled the last bent. At this point you can notice the difference between the original stain and the new stain. We finish staining all of the existing members to match the new darker color. We finish up day three with putting up the slats and metal roofing over the bar area.

Day four begins with placing the remaining rafters over the flat pergola portion and placing a 4ft roof to eliminate any water from reaching the bar area.

On day five we begin to frame in the bar and rough in the counter that will run along the backside. We did this by simply framing up 2x4 half walls which will be more than adequate enough to support any loads on the counters. The last two pictures show the completed outdoor kitchen and bar prepped for a party. A part that was not shown but, added in after the fact was the wind knee bracing that is placed at the corners of each intersection. This added a lot of stability and rigidity to the structure.
