More and more I get this question: “I’m looking at the 300 two stroke, but now you have me confused since you seem to like the 250 better. Which one should I buy?” They go onto tell me they are looking at KTM, Beta, Sherco, or Gas Gas and could really use some help.

Here is my answer as of late. It really depends on what your plans are for general riding. If the terrain you ride most of the time is faster and more open, get the 250. If the terrain is generally tighter and more technical, get the 300. That is the rule of thumb. This isn't to say that the 250 can't do slow and technical, because I haven't found anywhere I couldn't go on my 250s that I could go on my 300s. You just need to cover the clutch a little better on the 250 since it doesn't have as much low end torque. I love both the 250 and the 300, but the 250 is just a bit quicker revving motor and I'm having a ton of fun on it as of late.
