In this video, we will discuss the history of the Ludwig Super Sensitive line of snare drums as well as how the mechanism operates. This line of snare drums is one of the longest produced mechanisms in the drum industry and exemplifies multiple stages of innovation throughout the 20th century. While the original drum and mechanism are no longer produced, the drum is still sought after by percussionists and collectors alike because of its unique throw-off system and, as a result, an even more unique sound.

The drum shown throughout this video is a 1971 Ludwig Super Sensitive Snare Drum with a 5-inch by 14-inch Ludalloy shell.
