The "Salute to Shunters" was part of the Bitton at War 1940s weekend which included a lot of interesting things to see and do. Two wartime shunters were re-united after over 70 years, one being the resident shunter GRUMPY and the other being OVERLORD visiting from Chatham Historical Dockyard . Both have a long history as well as serving in France during WW2. Unfortunately OVERLORD failed on the Saturday with a cracked cylinder so I was told. Besides MOD Barclay 0-4-0DM Shunter GRUMPY other AVR resident locomotives in action included BR class 08, 08202, Fry's Chocolate Factory Sentinel 0-4-0VB steam shunter and NCB Hunslet 0-6-0ST No.7 WIMBLEBURY. The video includes stored rolling stock being marshalled on Thursday the 14th September, trains running on a very wet Sunday the 17th and distant views of GRUMPY moving OVERLORD in the yard on Monday the 18th.
