Having a look over my friends car I noticed the belt had never been changed. It was showing signs of failure and I recommended he have it changed. The serpentine belt is a fairly easy replacement with Toyota's classic design of tensioning by using the alternator.
The water pump is driven directly from the serpentine belt and having a belt come of or break could potentially cause overheating. I wouldn't limp a car too far without that water pump turning because a bad scenario could turn into the worst case scenario.
Thanks for watching! Couple of how-to videos before I can started on my own work again. STAY TUNED!
