The invention of the Eiffel Tower - its construction began on January 28, 1887
The project for a 300-meter tower was born on the occasion of the preparation of the Universal Exhibition of 1889.

This is a daring extrapolation to the height of 300 meters - the equivalent of the symbolic figure of 1000 feet - of the principle of bridge piers that the company then masters perfectly. Eiffel took a patent on September 18, 1884 "for a new arrangement allowing the construction of piles and metal pylons with a height of over 300 meters".
