It combines all the variables around hazards, exposure, and dose-response, in order to make an overall characterization of “is there an actual risk to the population of concern?”. In this video Laura Vandenburg, Graduate Program Director, Department of Environmental Health Sciences, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, takes us through each of the steps, explaining the general concepts that may be applied to any specific situation.

ABOUT MATERIAL HEALTH EDUCATION:
Many of the materials we use to construct our world have negative impacts on our bodies and the ecosystems of our planet. Finding healthier materials can be time-consuming and resource intensive. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start because there’s so much information to sift through, or the information is too technical.

Parsons’ Healthy Materials Lab brings together experts across disciplines of architecture, design, chemistry, toxicology, public health, environmental justice, and more to introduce you to the key concepts of material health. This series of videos is the perfect place to start if you are looking to positively transform design and building practices with human health at the forefront of your decisions.
