This video explores the connections between Positioning Theory and multimodal or social semiotic analyses. It includes a very brief reference to overarching principles of Positioning Theory as developed by Rom Harré, Luk Van Langenhove, Ali Mogghaddam and others. The talk considers examples of artifacts and the role these play in shaping and representing positions. Examples include COVID-19 mask-wearing practices and multilingual learners of engineering design literacies in elementary classrooms.
