Best known for his time as a member of early 90s Michigan Wolverines, known as the fab five as Jalen Rose was arguably the most popular member of a freshman starting 5 consisting of him, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. This team was one of the most popular and influential college sports teams of all time, but unfortunately were not able to win any sort of championship during their time together and would eventually see a lot of their wins vacated due to recruitment violations. After three years he entered the NBA with a Denver Nuggets who had great young players alongside him like Dikembe Mutombo and Antonio McDyess, but he would never get a chance in Denver, and after just two season he was traded to the Indiana Pacers. But in Indiana his career would blossom, playing alongside guys like Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson, Rik Smits, Antonio Davis and Dale Davis. The team was coached by NBA hall of famer Larry Bird and under Bird, they would make three consecutive conference Finals appearances, even reaching the NBA Finals in 2000, and during this stretch Rose improved every year, even winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player award in 2000. By his final season in Indiana, he was scoring better than Reggie Miller. But he would be traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2002, and would spend the rest of his career as a valuable veteran presence on bad teams, as he would play with a Bulls team trying to find their footing after the retirement of Michael Jordan, then a Raptors team trying to find an identity as they lost Vince Carter, before finally spending brief with the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns. His NBA career was only 13 seasons, but during that time he was one of the league’s only true point forward and could do a bit of everything on the offensive end, and even though he never achieved the popularity of his college days, he put together a very good NBA career which tends to fall the cracks.
