This is my attempt at a traditional Hawaiian Calabash bowl, made from a piece of cherry that I harvested at my family farm. The wood was originally a crotch piece but, when we cut it off of the log the crotch piece split.
I had some cracks and crevices that forced me to take the bowl smaller than I intended and, as a result, the proportions are not exactly what a true Hawaiian Calabash bowl should be. Nevertheless, I was very pleased with this attempt. The bowl turned out gorgeous!

I also got to use my new Ashley Harwood Bottom Bowl Gouge, "The Finisher"! It is a magnificent piece of tooling in both design and finish, and did a perfect job getting me to my final inside shape. I definitely recommend checking it out!
