During WWII the groundwater was subjected to contamination by the air field's fuel tanks that decayed throughout the years. The fuel ended up spilling into the groundwater. This was brought up by a Master SGT whose daughter died from cancer caused by this contamination. To this day, the Marine Corps tends to deny such allegations.
