If your sprinkler valve will not turn off and you have water running down the street, the first thing you need to do is turn off the water to the sprinkler system.Turning off the sprinkler controller will not stop the water from running. You have to get the water to stop and the only way to do that is turning the water off to the sprinkler system, typically at the backflow device. When the valve won't shut off, it means there is either something like a rock stuck in it, or there is something wrong with the diaphragm. You will then take the valve apart and flush the debris out or replace a broken diaphragm like we had to do here.
