Oleksandr Usyk won the undisputed heavyweight championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday by winning a split decision over Tyson Fury in one of the great fights you'll ever see. Usyk won by scores of 115-112 and 114-113 while the third judge had it 114-113 for Fury. I had it 115-112 for Usyk, who may have broken his jaw in the fight.
The bout was so good and so back-and-forth, it reminded me of such battles as Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier I and III, Ali-George Foreman, Riddick Bowe-Evander Holyfield I, Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko, Larry Holmes-Ken Norton, Fury-Deontay Wilder III and Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko.
This is what happens when promoters make the best versus the best and don't try to sit on the title or protect their investment in a fighter. This bout enthralled all who saw it and raised the fighters as well as the sport itself.
It was an amazing battle and I hope you enjoy my thoughts on the fight and its impact on boxing.
