I begin reading the text at 4:13.

"Revelations of Divine Love” is considered widely to be the most important work of English mysticism. It is also celebrated as the first book to be written by an English woman! Julian is not canonized as a saint, but she does have her own commemoration day, May 8, in the Catholic, Episcopal and Lutheran church calendars.

Revelations of Divine Love is not a particularly easy book to penetrate. I have chosen excerpts from a presentation by Sheila Upjohn, entitled “All Shall Be Well.” Upjohn has slightly abridged the text, with great care, and broken it down into sections that stand well on their own as daily readings.

At some point after the showings but before the second text was written, Julian (whose given name we do not know) chose the vocation of anchoress at the Church of St Julian in Norwich. She lived in a small cell, or ‘anchorhold’, built into the church wall, and offered spiritual counsel to visitors through a small window.
