On May 11, 2023, around 10 a.m. local time, the Navy’s training sail ship, Gorch Fock, entered the port of Madeira. Madeira is a Portuguese island in the Atlantic north of the Canary Islands. It is the 175th foreign training trip of the Gorch Fock. The journey began on March 20, 2023 in Kiel (see    • Gorch Fock verlässt Kiel zur 175. Aus...  ), went to Madeira via Spain and Portugal. The way back leads via Ireland. The return to Kiel is scheduled for July 7, 2023. About 250 officer candidates take part in 3 cruises - including cadets from Korea, Colombia, Malaysia, France, Togo, Cameroon, Benin and Senegal. The Gorch Fock sails under the command of Captain (rank is comparable to Colonel) Graf von Kielmansegg. On the last leg to Madeira, the wind was so suitable that the Gorch Fock was actually able to cover 90% of the way with sails.

The video shows the arrival of the Gorch Fock in the port of Madeira (reverse by pilot), the welcome by the German Ambassador to Portugal, Dr. Julia Monar, and the commander of the Mürwik Naval Academy (Flensburg), Rear Admiral Jens Nemeyer, as well as typical work on board such as replenishing supplies or fire drills. The video is divided into the following chapters:
0:00 arrival of the Gorch Fock
2:42 Welcome by Ambassador Dr. Monar, the German Consul in Madeira and Admiral Nemeyer (including a report by Count von Kielmansegg)
6:02 Gorch Fock Impressions, change of watch and loading of groceries
8:04 ambassador's farewell
8:22 Fire drill
