A review of the Ramirez 2NE and 3NE classical guitars, featuring Gordon O'Brien and Grant MacNeill.

Ramirez 2NE and 3NE classical guitars are based on the of the 1990s model E series guitars, developed from designs conceived by Jose Ramirez III. Amalia Ramirez created the NE models as an affordably priced, all-solid-wood instrument for the serious student of classical guitar.

These instruments feature all solid wood construction, an asymmetrical 6 top-strut fan brace pattern, a unique custom soundhole mosaic rosette and custom Ramirez label. The headstock shape is the standard modern pattern associated with Ramirez guitars.

Available in Red Cedar top as the model 2NE and in German Spruce top as the model 3NE. Both guitars are identical structurally.

Tonally these instruments are very similar but one might hear subtle differences between Spruce and Cedar: more bass power from the Cedar and clearer, more articulate trebles with Spruce. That said, the differences are subtle.

The design features are uniquely Ramirez in decoration, tone, and quality of sound and materials. These guitars designed by Amalia Ramírez and inspected and adjusted in her workshop by her craftsmen under her personal supervision.

The Ramirez 2NE and 3NE models are reasonably priced yet high quality Spanish-made instruments and enjoy great popularity with serious students of the classical guitar. They are a reflection of the consistently excellent tone and balance of Ramirez guitars at any price level.
