In 1970, construction began on the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Tazara), a daring project financed by China to connect Zambia's Copperbelt to the East African coast. Despite being deemed too risky by the World Bank, the $500 million railway was completed in six years by Chinese and African workers. The 1860-kilometer track stretches from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia, overcoming dense forests, mountains, and rivers. The project claimed the lives of 160 workers and continues to pass through wildlife-rich nature parks.

The rails not only lead to the famous ruined city of Machu Picchu but connect the ancient Inca capital of Cusco with Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca and the gleaming white city of Arequipa. A train journey with the Andes Explorer through a grandiose landscape and an undeveloped and inaccessible area.

The Pamban Railway crosses the tropical landscape of Tamil Nadu, the former Madras, for around 600 kilometers. Heavy storms and rain showers make the route a challenge for Indian Railways to this day. The film accompanies the "Rameswaram Express" over the notorious Pamban Bridge, the first bridge across the Indian Ocean.
