During the closure of Pico and 7th Street/Metro Center Stations, LA Metro began the process of upgrading the underground portions of its light rail transit system from overhead catenary wires to overhead conductor rails (OCRs), starting with 7th Street/Metro Center and the tunnel leading up to the station. These rails are intended to last longer than the traditional overhead wire currently installed on most of the Metro light rail transit system and require less maintenance. Before reopening for train service, the closed portion of the Blue and Expo Lines underwent thorough testing, including that of the OCR system. Join me and come along for the ride as Metro & CPUC engineers observe the new system in action, checking for any faults that may hinder service. Enjoy an exclusive behind the scenes look, including a cab view, that you won't see anywhere else! And of course, next time you visit 7th Street/Metro Center, make sure to look up high and see if you can spot the new contact rails ^-^
