A late evening visit to Blea Tarn, which is situated on the fell road between Great and Little Langdale. It is a very peaceful place, having all the qualities of a remote mountain tarn, whilst being accessible to all. It was once the haunt of local 'moonshiners'; distillers of illicit whisky, who perpetuated local ghost stories in order to keep people away from their stills. The tarn is now a site of Special Scientific Interest, and human activity there has been traced back some 3,000 years.
