This video is about the best way to learn a new piano piece. When you start a new piece, it's essential to have an organized approach to learning new music. This is in order to avoid spending a lot more time learning the notes of a piano piece than you really need to, so that you can stop feeling like you're practicing and practicing without making much progress on your new piece at the piano.
In this video, I talk about sensory memory, and how to encode new information into the short-term and eventually the long-term memory. I discuss the concept of "chunking" when learning a new piano piece, and why chunking is the most efficient way to approach a piano piece that's brand new. And I also talk about how what we do at the piano is a physical combination of motions that need to be repeated a sufficient number of times in order for our short-term memory to hang onto them and to eventually encode them into our longer term memory.
