Ross Shafer was the original host of ALMOST LIVE...a comedy talk show launched in 1984 on KING-TV in Seattle. In the early days, the show got very little promotion. In an attempt to capture more viewers, the cast members worked hard to be funny and controversial. Most of their stunts didn't attract much attention...until Ross Shafer, Jim Sharp, John Keister, Joe Guppy, Bill Nye, Dana Dwinnell and Jim McKenna spearheaded a local campaign to change the Washington State Song from "Washington My Home" to the rock ballad, "LOUIE, LOUIE." The idea went viral before viral was a word. ALMOST LIVE was in the national press for 267 straight days. To accommodate the explosion in new Advertising Sales, ALMOST LIVE was expanded from 30 minutes/episode to a Full Hour long weekly show. The weekly comedy show enjoyed a 15 year run...and another 10 years of reruns.
