Ithaca is Gorges – but have you ever wondered why?

The answers may surprise you. Ithaca's geologic past includes oceans, earthquakes, volcanoes, and miles of glacial ice. Join geologists from the Paleontological Research Institution for a walking tour of the astonishing history of Ithaca's iconic gorges.

In Fall Creek we’ll examine the shape of the landscape – its geomorphology – to interpret the glacial history of the Finger Lakes region. The waterfalls and gorges are the fingerprints left behind by advancing and melting glacial ice. In fact, traces of two separate ice ages are preserved in Fall Creek. Join us & check it out!
