We continue to educate you about Mazda diesels. This time, we took apart the 2.2-liter MZR-CD engine known as the R2AA. Such an engine was installed first on the Mazda 6, then on the Mazda 3 and the CX-7 crossover. This is a purely Japanese diesel that dates back to the 1980s. By 2008, it was modernized: it switched to Common Rail from Denso. The 2.2-liter engine is considered more reliable than the 2-liter, but it has a hopelessly stretched timing chain.
