We never expected all these homesteading experiments would be for real. But now after Hurricane Helene knocked the water system out in Greene County (and we have it EASY compared with those in neighboring areas - please pray for them), we are grateful to have built a rainwater collection system. It's not potable without boiling, but it's good to have and to be able to offer to neighbors.

In this video, you'll see Grumpy adding onto our system. We had 650 gallon capacity and added one more 325 gallon tank. There's an upfront cost for materials (about $1000) but then other than a little bit of power for the pump, the water is free for the life of the system. About 1" of rain from a 1400 sq.ft. roof gives nearly 200 gallons of water in the tanks.

Welcome to Grumpy Grandpa's Garage, where we get our hands dirty and our grump on! Here, we don't just talk; we teach you real-life skills, the way they used to be taught. DIY, home improvement, woodworking, car repairs – you name it, we've got it. All served with a healthy dose of grumpiness and unfiltered commentary from our very own Grumpy. So, strap in, hit that subscribe button, and get ready for some grumpy wisdom. And remember, in Grumpy's words, "Get off my lawn!"
