Happy Birthday Flushing Line

The largest single segment to open at once was the extension from Queensboro Plaza to Corona Plaza. The picture window R-33/36 fleet ran almost exclusively and continuosly on the line for 40 years, much longer than the assortment of different equipment that came before. Through the tumult and change of the NYC Transit System, the solid World's Fair fleet was a bastion of uniform reliability. The Corona yard based fleet was the one that was marred by graffiti later and had it banished earlier than all other yard's fleets. This fleet was also the first to be entirely overhauled during the great 1980s renaissance led by Ravitch and Gunn.
