JAPAN vs GERMANY | Highlights | Men's VNL 2024. Japan beat Germany in full sets, marking fifth win in qualifying round in Men's Volleyball Nations League 2024!

The Japanese round of the Volleyball Nations League, "Kaitori Daikichi Volleyball Nations League 2024 Fukuoka Tournament," is being held at the West Japan General Exhibition Center (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture).

The Japanese men's national team, ranked 4th in the FIVB world rankings (before the start of the match), won their first match against Iran in straight sets yesterday, and then faced Germany, ranked 11th, and won in full sets with a score of 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-8). For the Japanese men's national team, this match was the last match of the first half of the 12 matches in the preliminary round. Despite the time difference between the venues and the number of matches played, they are provisionally in second place with 5 wins and 1 loss (13 points) so far.

In the first set, Japan made mistakes in combinations and relationships between players. Germany hit strong serves, but Japan patiently returned the serves and did not allow a service ace. They scored points with side outs from the B pass, and took the first set 25-22.

In the second set, Japan wanted to gain momentum, but Germany hit three service aces with strategic serves that varied in speed. Their serve reception was disrupted, reducing their attacking options, and they lost the second set 22-25.

In the third set, Japan responded with total defense against Germany's thorough offensive attack, but still conceded points. After giving up three service aces to Germany again, Japan lost consecutive points in the final stages, losing the set at 25-27 after a deuce.

In the fourth set, with no way out, Germany continued to attack with their serves, scoring four service aces, but Japan was able to play the game as usual, increasing their side-out success rate, mainly through Nishida Yuji's points. After a close match at 25-23, Japan took the set and brought the game back to a tie.

In the fifth set, they took complete control from the middle, steadily scoring points and widening the gap. In the end, Akihiro Yamauchi, who entered the match as a substitute, scored a service ace, and they won the full set with a score of 15-8.

Germany had 10 service aces, while Japan had only 3. As for serves, Japan was unable to perform at their best as Germany was on the offensive. On the other hand, Japan had more than double the number of block points, 10, compared to Germany's 4. Onodera Futoshi and others stood in front of Germany's attacks at key points, turning the tide and turning the game around.

The Japanese men's team will have a day of rest before facing Poland, ranked number one in the FIVB world rankings, on Friday the 7th. We ask for your continued support.
