Bugatti Automobiles (1998 — present)
In 1998, the Volkswagen group under the leadership of Ferdinand Piech acquired the rights to the Bugatti brand[17]. The historic Chateau Saint-Jean estate was also purchased, which was restored and became the headquarters of the company [18][19]. The historical Bugatti factory now belongs to Snecma, so Volkswagen built a new factory next to the estate, which is called the atelier [19]. Later that year, the concept car of the Bugatti EB 118 two-door four-seater coupe, developed by ItalDesign, was presented at the Paris Motor Show[20]. It was followed by two more concepts from the same ItalDesign: in 1999, the concept car of the Bugatti EB 218 four-door sedan was presented at the Geneva Motor Show, which was a development of the Bugatti EB 112 concept; and at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1999, the concept of the Bugatti 18/3 Chiron supercar was presented[21][22].

In October 1999, a concept with an 18-cylinder Bugatti 18/4 Veyron engine, developed already at Volkswagen, was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show. In the fall of 2000, the Bugatti 16/4 Veyron concept with a 16-cylinder engine was introduced.

In the same year, the Bugatti 16.4 Veyron with a 1001 hp engine was presented at the Geneva Motor Show[23] Thomas Bscher was appointed head of the company since the end of 2003[24].

Production of the Bugatti Veyron hypercar began in 2005. A total of 450 cars were produced, the price of some of them reached more than 2 million euros.

Since 2007, Franz-Josef Paefgen has become the president of the company[25].

A year later, in 2008, a Bugatti Veyron modification was introduced in the form of a roadster — Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport.

In 2010, at the Geneva Motor Show, the company showed a concept car of a four-door luxury sedan Bugatti 16C Galibier, and also later, in the same year, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport was presented — a modification of Bugatti Veyron with increased engine power, which got into the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest production car and still holds this title.

Wolfgang Durheimer has been the president of Bugatti Automobiles since 2011[26].

In the spring of 2012, a modification of the "high-speed" Bugatti Veyron roadster called Grand Sport Vitesse was presented.

In the fall of 2012, Wolfgang Schreiber was appointed president of the company[27].

In June 2014, Wolfgang Durheimer was re-appointed president of Bugatti[28].

The last Bugatti Veyron was introduced in the spring of 2015, and in the fall of the same year Bugatti brought the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo show car to the Frankfurt Motor Show - a "real" version of a virtual hypercar invented for the Gran Turismo 6 video game[29].

At the Geneva Motor Show in 2016, the Bugatti Chiron was presented — the company's new production hypercar, the successor to the Bugatti Veyron. Bugatti Chiron is equipped with an 8.0 liter quad-turbo W16 engine, has a capacity of 1500 hp and 1600 Nm. It allows you to develop 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds, 200 km/h in 6.1 seconds, 300 km/h in 13.1 seconds, and 400 km/h in 32.6 seconds.

In January 2018, Stefan Winkelman took over as president of the company[30].

At the end of August 2018, the Bugatti Divo car was presented at the elegance competition in Pebble Beach[31][32].

In August 2019, the Bugatti Centodieci model was introduced.[33][34]

On July 6, 2021, German Porsche AG and Croatian Rimac Automobili announced the creation of a joint venture that will control Bugatti, which will transfer ownership to Volkswagen AG. Rimac Automobili will receive a controlling stake in it — 55%, and Porsche, which owns a 24 percent stake in the Croatian manufacturer, will receive 45%.[35]
