The story starts with Giti’s father, a poor school master, could not tolerate the unkindness meted out by his second wife towards Giti. He fell prey to heart attack and Giti on the way to call the doctor met Soumen an industrialist & ex-student of the teacher. She pleaded with him to marry Giti so that her father could die in peace. After the death of the teacher Soumen married Giti in spite of his mother’s objections. This marriages brings up a all new front to the story.
