The D'Amelio Show is a Hulu exclusive documentary highlighting the TikTok stardom, busy lives of Charli D'Amelio, Dixie D'Amelio, and their parents Marc & Heidi D'Amelio as they navigate being thrusted into superstardom seemingly overnight. Without the gradual success that normally comes with fame, the D'Amelio's are set up to make mistakes, learn, and try out new career paths in front of an already enormous audience, ready to pick them apart at any given moment.
Charli and Dixie D'Amelio became famous, and only now after fame are trying to discover their talents and passions to show the world, instead of vice versa. Dixie's struggles with her self confidence in her new music career is difficult, starting in front of millions of people instead of a gradual rise to fame that correlates to learning and growing her skill as her audience grows. Charli D'Amelio struggles balancing new with the old, trying to grasp onto what made her a normal girl in Connecticut, dance, old friends, and her new starlit life in sunny Los Angeles California, dealing with intrusive paparazzi, hate comments, and more. Surely being dropped into the limelight as a shy 15 year old at the time was not, and is not an easy feat to overcome and get used to.

Kuncan Dastner and I share opinions and discuss the cruel online space and how poorly we treat people online based on the one-dimensional façade that we're shown. We are taught to not judge a book by its cover, be accepting, and be kind and spread positivity, but all of which is thrown out the window the instant someone becomes successful or has more privilege than I. We suddenly disregard the progress we've made as a society with mental health awareness and acceptance when someone is famous. In my personal opinion, the way we are treating this new age of teenage girls is reminiscent of how we and the media regrettably treated Britney Spears, that led her to a downfall she didn't deserve, and we are to blame for. We need to be more careful and mindful of how we treat successful people, as we treat our peers, and I think the world and the internet can truly be more positive of a place for everyone. It's a seemingly impossible task that can be shoved to the side in acceptance of rampant toxicity, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to be a part of the change.
