The Dassault Mirage was a lightweight, all weather interceptor designed in the late 1950's and entering service with various nations from 1961. Able to achieve speeds in excess of Mach 2 and featuring good manoeuvrability, along with the possibility of fitting it with a variety of external armaments, it proved itself a very formidable fighter.
